Happy February! We have quite a bit coming down the pipeline this month. Keep an eye out for another email from me announcing our Summer Program registration. I am in the process of putting the final tweaks on an online registration system that will allow for almost everything to be completed online, even payment!
After school activities have been a bit spotty with all of the crazy weather but we are up and running, so come on down on Fridays and go out for a sail or see if you can land a big fish!
As for this month’s events, here’s what we have in the works:
Wednesday, February 1 – CISA Clinic application deadline
For those in the advanced steps of the sailing game, the CISA clinic is a phenomenal clinic with long days on the water with excellent coaching from around the country.
February 4-5 – Valentine’s Day Regatta at St. Petersburg YC (Opti)
Wish Carter Vachon good luck as he heads to St. Pete to take part in the annual exchange between SDAYC and St. Petersburg YC. Every year some young sailors from St. Petersburg come out to the Junior Commodore’s Regatta at MBYC in November and SDAYC then sends some sailors out for the Valentine’s Day Regatta. This really neat tradition has been going on for decades and provides young sailors the opportunity to expand their horizons.
Good luck Carter! Have fun!
February 4-5 – SoCal #4 at ABYC (High School)
A two-day installment of the popular SoCal series for high school sailing. These regattas function as a JV type event to build up the skills of the high school scene.
February 11-12 – Junior Sabot Midwinters at NHYC (Sabot)
A fun regatta up in Newport that promises great competition. For those attending, please be aware that NHYC is going to look a bit different than it has in the past. Demolition has started as they work toward building a brand new clubhouse. I am sure that they have temporary facilities setup, as necessary, but it might be wise to allow a bit of extra time as things are certainly going to be different and potentially a bit impacted by construction.
Regatta info can be found here:
February 18-20 – Club 420 Midwinter Championship at US Sailing Center Martin County (C420)
A big regatta in Florida to keep an eye on for future generations of our young sailors. Another opportunity to travel to a large regatta on the east coast. This regatta has served as a feeder for larger championship regattas in the past.
February 25-26 – Golden Bear Regatta at Treasure Island Sailing Center (High School)
The fourth of the major high school regattas on the Pacific Coast. This regatta can bring a wide variety of conditions and offers great spectating in the protected cove of San Francisco Bay.
As always, please let me know regatta plans as soon as possible so I can work to coordinate logistics.
See you at the Club!
