Commodore's Message

Dear Friends:

A diverse community of passionate boaters means that SWYC has a broad range of activities throughout the year. I am very pleased to serve as Commodore and work with the outstanding Board of Directors and Committees that make the Club run smoothly. We continue to grow our membership despite the difficult economy in recent years. We have successfully integrated a new Military Membership category for active duty families and the special slip discount led to new members with new boats in the 24' and 30' slips. This growth in the Club appears to be a reflection of the importance of fishing, sailing, cruising, competing, community service, educational programs and a great Junior Program with its history of producing world class and Olympic Sailors.

For 2013, SWYC will also continue to support longstanding traditions in place since our formation 88 years ago. Above all else, we naturally promote and enjoy the reputation as "the friendly club"... for many of us, SWYC is our extended family. Following the recent retirement of our Club General Manager ("thanks for 11 years Jeff"), we have been very fortunate to hire our new General Manager, Craig Wong. He has gotten off to a good start and it is our goal to expand the quality and variety of our dining menu and wine list. We continue to offer an excellent range of beers on tap including the highly prized monthly specials. There are a many special events planned for the coming year from unique food and beverage tastings to top name musicians and even the 2nd annual vintage car and bike show. We will continue to make available our fine facility for private events such as weddings and group meetings...get your requests in early to avoid a disappointment. Our Club members generously support community organizations that provide invaluable service to those in need, including Meals on Wheels and Elder Help. Our annual fund raising event this Spring is for Elder Help and is put on by the Anglers with the Bottom Fishing Tournament (May 4, 2013).

If you are a Member, I look forward to seeing you on the docks and in the Club. If you are considering Membership, please come by and visit, talk to the Office staff or one of us...we are happy to fulfill our role as the friendly club.

Sincerely,

Commodore Chris O'Brien
