Coming events

Hi Team SWYC,

I hope everyone is enjoying the Holiday Season!  With the New Year just around the corner, it’s time to mark up the calendar for January.
January 6-7 – Rose Bowl Regatta at USSCLB (High School) The third of the “varsity” level events for the year.  This one is unique in that there is a college regatta happening at the same time and same place.  Saturday night offers a unique opportunity to hear about the college programs present and learn a bit more by talking to sailors, coaches and other representatives who may be present.
January 7 – Winter Series 1 at SWYC/SDYC (Sabot) The first of the fun and informal Series events for the year.  These regattas are a great way to hone your skills or check out racing for the first time and they’re free!  Arrive at SWYC by about 10:30 to rig and get ready to go for a 12:00 first race.  We’ll sail 5 races and head back home.  Registration is now online, so head over to https://www.regattatoolbox.com/entryList?eventID=gQY7KbX1GK to sign up!
January 12 – After School Activities Start Up! Winter breaks are over and school is back in session.  If you’re back in school, then it’s time to come down to the Club on Fridays and get out on the water!  Come on down and have some fun fishing and sailing.
January 13 – Shadden Series #3 at SDYC (CFJ) The third installment of the ever popular Shadden series.  These regattas typically draw a crowd of 40+ boats and gives racers a chance to fly a spinnaker.  Regatta details can be found here: https://www.regattatoolbox.com/eventDetails?eventID=PQF2e9Vkgf
January 14 – SDAYC Junior Installation Dinner at SWYC Each year SDAYC clubs get together to celebrate the new year.  We’ll hand out the trophies for each of the SDAYC Luff In Series and recognize the Junior Boards at each of the Clubs.  We’ll have a cool guest speaker, some great food and lots of fun.  Anyone is welcome to attend but our Junior Board is expected.  Details and registration for the event can be found here: https://sdyc.org/calendar/event/sdayc-junior-installation-dinner18
January 14 – 15 – Harold Adams Team Race Classic at SDYC (CFJ – Team Racing) This is a highly competitive, action packed regatta.  Well over 50 races are scheduled for the weekend in a format that provides quick, 10 minute, short courses with three boats on one team competing against three boats on another team.  A round robin or few will be sailed and the racing is intense. Regatta details can be found here: https://sdyc.org/calendar/event/scya-harold-adams-team-race-classic_2017-2018
January 20 – 21 – North Series #3 and ABYC Jr. Invitational at ABYC (Sabot) The third installment of the coveted North Series.  This is a great regatta to check out if you want to hit the road and see something outside of our normal San Diego area venues.  Regatta details: https://www.abyc.org/calendar/race/3565-jr-fall-invitational
January 20 – 21 – Snipe Las Vegas Regatta at MBYC (Snipe) A little too big for a Sabot but want to sail in a fun, competitive fleet?  Check out the Snipe fleet and get started in dinghy you can sail for the rest of your life.  Let me know if you’re interested in sailing and I will get you in touch with the right people.
January 27-28 – Perry Series #3 at USSCLB (C420) The third in the line of competitive C420 regattas throughout Southern California.  This series brings out some of the top sailors in Southern California and beyond.
Regatta details can be found here: http://www.scyyra.org/series/19/perry-info   As always, let me know when you plan to participate so I can start working on the logistics.

 Happy New Year!
